Ladies Ministries: The Love, the life, the legacy....

Before it was fashionable to have a Ladies Ministry, Sis. Agnes Yandris (our founding pastor's wife) felt a call and burden to help raise money to build a church here in Merced California along with her Husband.  She began with making donuts every morning and had a route with loyal customers who anxiously awaited her delectable pastries.  She branched out with a small crew consisting of herself and Sis. Janeen.  Although others volunteered, none could compare to those two.  They made the famous donuts as well as pies and then on to peanut brittle.  Sis. Agnes put her daughters to work peddling the goodies from business to business.  It was a sell out most every time.  Sis. Lynn Yandris Steffen as well as Sis. Carol Abbey is remembered for their hard labor at selling the goods on every street corner. Sis. Agnes began to have garage sales on her front lawn to raise funds needed to build a church. 

Every Saturday she would have a sale until one day the County Department shut them down as being a business and not a random garage sale.  So they promptly moved over to Sis. Flowers front lawn.  It was not long before the County caught up with them again and shut them down for good. It was during this time that Elder Bill Yandris said to his wife, "I found a piece of property for $3.000 that we could use to build a church on".  To which Sis. Agnes said, "That is the exact amount I have saved up from garage sales, donut sales and peanut brittle"  The rest is history.  Property was purchased on Second and R with the money earned through blood sweat and tears.

So today stands a memorial to these ladies for making our church a reality.  The debt we owe can never be repaid in this world but their crown will be adorned with jewels that money cannot buy. We all say to Sis. Agnes, you are truly a Proverbs woman.  We thank you for your sacrificial labor.  We honor you for being a Godly woman whose life has been above reproach.  You are the anchor we look to as we reach for our future.
